Squid, a British band that keeps testing its limits, joins the INmusic festival #16 line up!

Experimental and unpredictable Squid will bring their ‘twisted, 21st-century jazz’ to the INmusic festival #16 stage in June 2024!

Squid are an English post-punk band formed in 2017, when its members were students at Brighton University of England. The band is composed of five musicians, each of whom has multiple roles: the singer and drummer Ollie Judge, the guitarist and vocalist Louis Borlase, the guitarist and vocalist Anton Pearson, the bassist and brass player Laurie Nankivell and the keyboardist, cellist and percussionist Arthur Leadbetter. Their punk-rock base is often supplemented with instruments associated with jazz and classical music which emphasizes their unorthodox sound. To help their listeners wrap their minds around something that is nearly impossible to define, Judge stated: ‘I think we’d probably lean toward being called some sort of twisted, 21st-century jazz.’ Since their debut EP ‘Town Centre’ (2019) they have released multiple singles that evoked critical acclaim. The band’s bold and ambitious debut album ‘Bright Green Field’ (2021) plays up on a broad range of ideas, themes and topics and garnered them a well-deserved hype. In 2023, Squid have reset the benchmark of their boundless creativity with their latest studio album, ‘O Monolith’, released with Warp Records to widespread critical acclaim.
