Special Program Marking the 20th Anniversary of INmusic Festival: “On Freedom”

An artistic and philosophical exploration of freedom inspired by Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.”

We live in an age in which the idea of freedom permeates every aspect of our lives. Our social and political systems are founded upon the principle of freedom; people fight and sacrifice their lives for it, while the deprivation of freedom remains one of the harshest forms of punishment. Beyond being one of humanity’s highest values, freedom has always served as a profound source of artistic inspiratio, perhaps nowhere more vividly today than in rock music.

Yet throughout all this, it is often taken for granted that we already know and understand what freedom is. As a result, any discussion of it may seem unnecessary, as though it concerned something entirely self-evident.

But is that really the case?

Driven by the intuition that freedom is something far more enigmatic, the special artistic and philosophical program of the INmusic Festival seeks to take a step toward a deeper understanding of freedom, its meaning and its many manifestations.

The program will take place each day inside the large dome located between the performances on the Main Stage.

The project has been developed through a collaboration between the INmusic Festival and philosopher Petar Šegedin, media expert Stanislav Bender, video artist Ivan Slipčević, animator Julia Stura and sound engineer Hrvoje Nikšić. The text is narrated by Nina Violić.
